WILLIAM HENRY HOWARD JR. , 78, of Springfield, passed away at Hospice of Dayton on Sunday afternoon, June 3, 2018. He was born in Springfield on July 17, 1939, the son of the late William H. and Nora M. (Lewis) Howard.

Bill was a retired Ironworker having been a member of Local 290 and owned and operated Becky’s Rebar for many years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles, Union Club, and the Toymakers in Florida. He loved his cars, motorcycles and traveling.

Bill will be remembered… Read More » as a loving and quietly generous man with both his family and strangers. His children always called him, “The Duke” after John Wayne. He is survived by his five children, Terry (Larry) Harkins of Urbana, Sandra (Jim) Balmer of New Carlisle, Donna (Gary) Hoberty of New Carlisle, William Henry Howard III of Springfield, and Robert A. (Melinda) Howard of Springfield; the love of his life, Wilma Cessna; a sister, Judy Northup of Springfield; and a brother, Robert Howard of Enon.

Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, Larry, William, Jamie, Jason, Janey, Christy, Amy, William, Kyle, Taylor, Shawn, Cole, Ashley, Hayley, Catilyn, and two special grandchildren, Becky and Steven; 24 great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Bella. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Burlile and Ruth King and the mother of his children, Becky Howard. The family would like to express their thanks to Hospice of Dayton, especially Tisha and Anita.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Bill’s funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with Pastor David Hill officiating. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum.
