John Miller, Jr. May 04, 1941 – January 28, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Sympathy Card OPELOUSAS ~ Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2, 2019 at a 12:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Landry Catholic Church for John Miller, Jr., age 77, who passed away Monday, January 28, 2019 at his residence in Opelousas. Interment will be in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Grand Coteau. The Rev.

Lambert Lein, SVD, pastor of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, will officiate at the services. Mr. Miller was a native of Sunset and a resident of Opelousas. He was employed with St. Landry Parish School Board for 30 years and was a St. Landry Parish School Board Member for over 20 years.

He was a parishioner of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau. He was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver. John served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1958-1962.

He was also a member of American Legion Post 556. Survivors include his wife of fifty-one years, Catherine Olivier Miller of Opelousas; two sons, Shawn A. Miller and his wife, Leticia, of Corpus Christi, TX and Darren J. Miller, Sr. of Houston, TX; one daughter, Tamara Miller Broussard of Opelousas; two brothers, Leroy Miller and his wife, Juanita, and Andrew Miller and his wife, JoAnne, all of Sunset; five sisters, Delores Henny of Houston, TX, Dora Hudspeth of Beaumont, TX, Theresa Walker and her husband, Warren, of Inglewood, CA, Sandra Broussard of Crosby, TX and Alma Jayne Fisher and her husband, John, of Beaumont, TX; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Thierry and her husband, Clifford, of Opelousas; a brother-in-law, Ezekiel Joseph; four grandchildren, Alexa Miller, Darren Miller, Jr., Jayden Broussard and Gabriella Miller; three aunts, Theresa Lawrence, Rosa Miller and Joyce Redder; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Miller, Sr. and the former Alma Chaisson; a brother, Joseph Michael Miller; two sisters, Fabiola Eaglin and Mary Joseph; and his father and mother-in-law, Mitchell and Leonor Olivier.

A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 7:00 a.m. Saturday until service time on Saturday. Melancon Funeral Home of Opelousas, 4708 I-49 North Service Road, (337) 407-1907, is in charge of arrangements.
