Pastor Robert “Bob” Michael Kumpf, 66, of Brazil, Indiana, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 28, 2018 while surrounded by his family. Bob was born on August 24, 1952, in Clay County, Indiana the son of P. Melvin and Dorothy “Deane” (Welch) Kumpf. He graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1970.

Bob re-enrolled at Purdue in 1977 and soon began working at J.I. Case as an engineer. After J.I. Case closed their plant in Terre Haute he began working for Tri Industries as the director of facilities. There he was instrumental in several expansion projects of the plant facilities.

While Bob enjoyed a successful career in engineering his heart was drawn to the mission field. Bob served as a mission coordinator for One Mission Society and Men for Missions International for many years. During his tenure he traveled to Russia, Columbia, Haiti, Mexico City, Trinidad, Spain, Kentucky and Mississippi.

Pastor Bob earned a Master’s of Divinity from C.T.S. in 2010. He had served as pastor of Harmony and Lena United Methodist Churches from 2002 – 2010 then Center Point, and Ashboro United Methodist Churches from 2010 until June of 2018 when he retired. When he was not serving others Bob enjoyed golfing, watching his grandkids play sports (and coach them from the sidelines), and traveling.

Pastor Bob was actively involved in many endeavours in the community including the YMCA of Clay County Advisory Council, Food for Families, Emmaus Community where he served as the Spiritual Director for many years, Indiana Blood Center where he gave blood and platelets regularly, Center Point Food Pantry, and Guy’s Who Give to name a few. Union United Methodist Church was Bob’s home church and where he and Carolyn raised their family. While there he held many leadership roles.

His greatest accomplishment was being able to bring the church congregation together during the building of the fellowship hall. Bob is survived by his wife Carolyn whom he married on June 16, 1974; a son and daughter-in-law Phil and Charity Kumpf of Brazil; a daughter-in-law Chandra Kumpf; grandchildren: Caleb Kumpf, Cam Kumpf, Carter Kumpf, Abby Kumpf, and Alli Kumpf; a sister Carolyn Houck and husband David of France; a sister-in-law Patty Garry and a sister and brother-in-law Connie and Steve Little; nieces and nephews: Ellen Looney, Cy Tottleben, Andy Houck, Jenny Faurote, Joe Garry, and Caiti Donaldson; as well as many extended family members and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his son Paul Kumpf; his parents Melvin and Deane Kumpf; a niece Cera Garry; mother and father-in-law Ruth and Garland Baker.

Visitation for Pastor Bob will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 3-8pm and again on Friday from 9am until time of services. Services will be at the funeral home, on Friday, at 11:00am with burial to follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery.
