Sarah Elaine “Auntie” Davis Patton June 16, 1941 – January 05, 2019 Share this obituary Local Florists View/Sign Guest Book WATERBURY, CT Sarah Elaine “Auntie” Davis Patton “Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother & sister” Mrs. Sarah Elaine Davis Patton, 77, known to most as “Auntie “, of Waterbury entered into the gates of heaven on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Waterbury Hospital. She was the wife of Joseph B. Patton of Waterbury for 51 years. Sarah was born in New Brunswick, NJ on June 16, 1941 a daughter of the late James and Carrie (Powell) Davis.
She was raised in Jacksonville, TN, and after graduating high school, she met her husband, Joseph, and they moved to New York then built a life together in CT. She worked for the N.O.W. Corporation Head Start Program for many years, then at the Southbury Training School before her retirement. She was a dedicated parishioner and senior choir member of the Christ C.M.E. Church for over 38 years.
She was the Vice President of the Missionaries, Willing Workers member who always was able and willing to raise money for the Church. She was the Grand Matron of the Youth Department for the International Mason Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Sisters of Charity Lodge # 034 of Waterbury. Sarah loved to travel and visited 50 of the 52 states, had a passion for playing cards, “spades, pitty pat and bid whist “, and she organized and won the spades tournament at Abbott Terrace Health Center.
She fostered over 49 children, and she leaves to cherish her memory are her three children, Samuel Powell and his fiancée Ashley Gentile of Torrington, Michelle Brock of Bristol and LaRoya Porter and her fiancée, Abdul Uqdah-Jennings of New Haven, a brother Robert Davis of Waterbury, one sister Mary Davis and her husband, Harold Griffin of Waterbury. She also leaves a lifelong dear friend, LeRoy Porter of New York, many nieces and nephews, 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by 2 sisters and 5 brothers.
The family would like to thank the staff at Abbott Terrace Health Center for their care and compassion giving to Sarah during her stay. Arrangements: Family and friends may call on Monday, January 14, 2019 from 9:00 – 10:00 am at the Zion Baptist Church, 137 Pearl St., Waterbury, CT 06704. Sarah’s celebration of life service will follow the calling hour at the church at 10:00 am.
Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT has been entrusted with her arrangements. The family will receive relatives and friends at other times at 221 Matthews Street, Bristol Ct.
