Tom Royer, 84 a lifelong resident of rural Clay City, passed on to his eternal home, early Tuesday morning, April 17, 2018, with his family at his side. He was born September 26, 1933, the son of Titus and Edith Adkins Royer. Tom met Barbara Northrop in their teens and they fell in love and have never parted.

They were married February 28, 1952, this past year was their 66th Anniversary. They have been members of Faith Southern Baptist Church for many years and Tom was a member of the Gideons. … Read More » Tom has always worked as a farmer.

He took pride in teaching his children about farming and caring for the land. Tom was a true steward of the land, and constantly invested in tending to their farm. When he reached the age of 55, he and Barbara began a ten year adventure in a ministry titled, SOWERS: Servants of Wheels Ever Ready.

They traveled all across the United States doing mission work. They enjoyed these years of travel and ministry, but then they returned home to Clay County and the family farm. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Helen Maxine Royer.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Royer; their children, LeAnna Sanchez (Henry), Pam Tanner (Mark), Karen Bailie (Rod), and Keith Royer (Ellen); 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Royer, Richard Royer; one sister Ruth Hester; and extended family. Services will be held Friday, April 20, at 1:00 pm at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, with Pastor Jeff Burns and Larry Moss officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 10-1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideon’s P.O. Box 271 Brazil, IN or to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 400 8th Ave. Terre Haute, IN.
