Roy’s Obituary Roy L. Turner, 95, Minot, ND, passed away peacefully December 20, 2018, at the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison. Roy Lincoln Turner was born August 14, 1923, the son of Louis and Willamina “Minnie” (Hanke) Turner, on the family farm near Benedict/Max, ND. He was raised on the family farm was confirmed at the Hope Lutheran Church, rural Max.

He attended a country school in the Benedict/Max area. He later received an honorary diploma. As a young adult, he assisted his parents with the operation of the family farm.

Roy enlisted in the United States Army in 1944, and he proudly served his country during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1945. Roy was united in marriage to Jean Kingsley on September 7, 1948, in Minot. Together they had four children.

The couple later divorced. In 1946, Roy worked at Parker Motors until transferring to Sweetheart Bakery, where he worked as a mechanic. He returned to the family farm when his father was diagnosed with cancer.

Following the death of his father, he continued to farm and rented more land close by his family farm. They moved to Sawyer and continued to farm there along with acquiring some livestock for several years. He later moved to Velva and farmed until his retirement.

During the winter months, he worked for Miller Mine by Sawyer for 15 years. He also drove the McHenry County Bookmobile along with helping the John Thomas and Ed Schiele farms. In October of 1995, Roy was united in marriage to Lucille E. Roen.

They made their home in Minot. He was also a courtesy driver for Westlie Motors in Minot. Roy loved life and family was also very important to him.

He enjoyed the everyday task of all things dealing with farming and taking care of the land. Farming was his life and he loved the harvest season. Roy also loved to dance.

He was very adept at fixing anything mechanical and building things out of little or nothing. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, ice fishing, and spending time outdoors. Roy was a self-taught accordion player.

For a time, he raced a car named, Was 16. He was always a very active and kind man. People have often said he was a gentle giant.

He was a member of the Minot VFW Post #753, the Minot American Legion Post #26, and the Moose Lodge. His loving family includes: wife of 23 years, Lucille, Minot; children, Lola (Doug) Hanna, Burlington; Larry (Joette) Turner, Velva, Lee (Lynne) Turner, Jamestown, Leon Turner, Minot, and Tim Kraft, Minot; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one more on the way; 8 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Irene Turner, Velva; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; son, Rick Cline; infant twin sisters; and brothers, Louis and Harold Turner.

Funeral: Friday, January 11, 2019, at 1:30 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. Interment: A private interment will take place at a later date. Visitation: Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
